Along the way, they spot plenty of nods to classic '60s sci-fi, including Star Trek, Lost in Space, and more.

Martian Sadhunter also returns in this episode to tell Superman about the image-projecting toys from his home planet—which is basically Martian porn. Plus, the Flash attempts to recreate the O.J. trial, Superman continues his bizarre obsession with smashing through recently repaired windows, and our hosts discover a trio of Green Lanterns whose design is... let's just say surprisingly phallic and impressively proportioned.

Our hosts return to the Podtower to dive into Part 1 of In Blackest Night.

Alex and Will discuss this courtroom drama in space and are surprised by how calm Green Lantern seems after being accused of destroying a planet with six billion inhabitants. They also talk about the debut of the Manhunters, the surprising actor behind the voice of their leader, and the many influences woven throughout the episode. From Steve Englehart’s original comic story to Superman: The Movie, there are plenty of references and nods to uncover.

Our hosts return to the Podtower to review the third and final instalment of Secret Origins. Alex and Will share their thoughts on the three-part story as a whole and come away feeling a little underwhelmed. 

They also spotlight the episode's musical score, noting its uncanny resemblance to Pirates of the Caribbean and wondering whether Hans Zimmer may have stolen it from this show. Another film comparison that Alex notices is from The Matrix, in both the music and the aliens' plan to block out the sun.

Our hosts also discover that Martian Manhunter might be into BDSM (even if he doesn't know what the acronym stands for), the aliens tunnel of deadly fart gas, and Batman builds a massive space station for the Justice League, only to then remain a temporary member of the team.

Our hosts return to the Podtower to continue their review of Part 2 of Secret Origins.

While the episode brings together some of DC's biggest heroes for the first time, Alex and Will come away feeling surprisingly underwhelmed by the experience. They discuss whether introducing so many major characters at once weakens the impact of their eventual team-up and wonder if a few heroes might have been better saved for later episodes.

Our hosts also wonder what the gooey, white alien invaders might be made of (if you know this podcast, I’m sure you can guess!). They also compare Superman's heat vision to a hot glue gun, discover that The Flash is a real Gooner, Batman gets benched, and Martian Manhunter goes emo.
