    Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesMarvel Studios fired up the Fantasti-Car with glee, as Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps opened to a global $218 million for its first weekend. Marvel’s First Family just edged out Superman’s Thursday night previews bringing $24.4 million to Superman’s $22.5 million. But no fear, the DCU’s first feature film is flying high - having just passed the $500 million mark globally and is potentially closing in on Jurassic World: Rebirth’s $600 million global take.This year’s San Diego Comic-Con may have felt a little demure with no large presences from Marvel Studios or DC Studios, but there’s still plenty to talk about. Let’s break down some highlights:Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere this year on December 10 on Disney+. Casting for season 3 characters Nico and Bianca di Angelo was announced by author Rick Riordan - with Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie in the roles, respectively.Rob Reiner shared the first trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. The film will release on September 2 of this year.Early access footage from a range of projects was shown at SDCC. Attendees were treated to viewing bits of Peacemaker season 2, The Boys’ spinoff: Gen V’s second season trailer, Aztec Batman, The Long Walk, It: Welcome to Derry, Coyote vs. Acme, Star Trek Strange New Worlds, Project Hail Mary, and Five Nights at Freddy 2.   Speaking of The Fantastic Four, moviegoers were treated to the first trailer to James Cameron’s third Avatar film prior to the latest MCU flick. Avatar: Fire & Ash will premiere December 19, 2025 and the sweeping trailer shows us the continued expansion of the world of Pandora with Jake Sully this time  facing a Na’vi antagonist. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana reprise their roles in the franchise along with many returning cast members and more storied actors have joined such as David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh.Marvel Animation‘s Eyes of Wakanda, from executive producer Ryan Coogler, will be released earlier than expected. The four-part series, originally slated to drop on August 6, then moved to August 27, now will be released on August 1 on Disney+. The full voice cast also has been revealed, along with the first full trailer.Hot off her Emmy nomination for her work in HBO’s The Penguin, Cristin Milioti is jumping into her next screen project, an independent horror thriller titled Buddy. Casper Kelly, who co-created Adult Swim shows such as Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell and the horror comedy viral sensation Too Many Cooks, is directing the feature and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules are producing via their BoulderLight Pictures, which has the upcoming film Weapons on its slate.Hulu has announced that all 10 episodes of Solar Opposites upcoming sixth and final season will drop Oct. 13 on Hulu and Disney+ and released a brief teaser trailer.Ilya Naishuller is in negotiations to take over as director of Amazon MGM Studios Road House 2, following Guy Ritchie’s exit from the project for undisclosed reasons earlier this month.Hans Zimmer will compose the score for the third season of Euphoria alongside British musician Labrinth, who scored the first two seasons.Sources confirmed to Deadline that Skyler Gisondo is in talks to join the cast of Universal’s next installment in the Meet the Parents franchise, now titled Focker in Law. John Hamburg is directing with the original cast including Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner returning to star. Ariana Grande is also on board to join the cast.Hulu has announced that Season 5 of its Emmy-winning comedy Only Murders in the Building will debut on the streamer September 9 with three episodes, with the remainder of the season rolling out with new episodes weekly.Author Mike Chen is penning a prequel novel to the Star Wars: Outlaws game called Low Red Moon.

First, last week in a huge move, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige invited a small group of journalists to Marvel Studios’ offices where he laid out the future for the next 5 to 7 years for the MCU. The biggest takeaway, arguably, was Feige’s cagey hints regarding a likely reset to the universe during the events of Secret Wars, saying, “Reboot is a scary word; Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.” Other tidbits from Feige’s comments include a commitment to recasting the X-Men with new actors for their post Secret Wars film, an update on the Mahershala Ali-led Blade film and Sony’s mandate that they stay away from a live action Miles Morales until the conclusion of the animated Spider-Verse trilogy. In Marvel news that looks to the more immediate future, director Matt Shakman shared that John Malkovich’s role and performance as the Red Ghost has been removed from The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, which opens this week!Superman continues to live up to its name when it comes to its performance, as the superhero flick passed $409 million at the global box office in its second weekend of release. The $58 million second weekend, which is a respectable -54% drop from the opening weekend, is in keeping with 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine and bodes favorably compared to other recent releases from the comic book genre; plus coupled with other wins like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, the latest success has helped Warner Bros become 2025’s top earning studio with $1.32 billion in ticket sales. In other news, Variety confirmed Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira has been tapped to pen the Wonder Woman reboot for the DCU in addition to being attached to a live action Teen Titans project for the studio.Lots and lots of trailers hit the interwebs last week, lets run them down and talk about ‘em:Alien: EarthPredator: BadlandsTron: AresStranger Things S5Mortal Kombat IIChristopher Nolan made history by putting tickets on sale for The Odyssey exactly one year before the film's release, marking the first time any movie tickets have sold a full year in advance. The early sales were exclusively for IMAX 70mm screenings at select theaters, supporting Nolan's epic adaptation of the Greek myth that is being shot entirely on IMAX film cameras with a $250 million budget.Hulu announced that Futurama Season 13 will switch from its recent weekly release format to an all-at-once binge drop, with all 10 episodes premiering simultaneously on September 15 at 5 p.m. PT. The change marks a departure from the weekly rollout used for Seasons 11 and 12.Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to star in Robert Eggers' upcoming werewolf horror film Werwulf, with Lily-Rose Depp in talks to join the project in what would reunite the Nosferatu co-stars. Nintendo and Sony's live-action Legend of Zelda movie has cast Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, with Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto revealing the casting choices alongside first-look photos on social media. Taika Waititi is attached to direct a new feature film take on British comic book character Judge Dredd. Drew Pearce, the scribe known for Fall Guy and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, is attached to write the script.Disney's live action Lilo and Stitch has become the first film of 2025 to pass the $1 billion dollar mark at the international box office.Nearly five years after Netflix entered into a content agreement with Ubisoft, the streamer has ordered an Assassin’s Creed live-action series, based on the best-selling video game franchise. Brand New Day will feature more real sets and on-location filming, according to the Spidey star.It was all about the blue, red, and yellow this weekend at the box office, with the DCU’s first film, Superman, soaring to an excellent $220 million global opening and just beating its domestic estimate of $122 million by catching $125 million in the states. Warner Brothers should be thrilled with the opening since of their latest slate of DC films, only 2017’s Wonder Woman and The Batman crossed the $100 million mark during their opening weekends.With last year’s banner year of television behind us, buzz about the Emmy’s has been hot and today the list of nominations dropped. Favorite of this cast, Severance, leads the drama show pack with 27 total nominations with other cast favorite, The Penguin, close behind with 24. The Studio and The White Lotus each grabbed 23 noms, and Hacks received the most for a comedy show with 14. The Bear continues its award showing as a comedy and a lot of our sci-fi/fantasy favorites such as Andor, Agatha All Along, Dune: Prophecy, and House of the Dragon, didn’t scoop any acting noms, but are up for production, costume, and directing - though Andor did snag a nomination for Best Drama Series.The Devil Wears Prada 2 has added Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, and Pauline Chalamet to the cast. They join stars of the original movie Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci who will reprise their roles for the sequel.20th Century and Shawn Levy's production company 21 Laps are currently in the early stages of revitalizing the Night at the Museum franchise. Tripper Clancy has been tasked to write the new take. Plot details for the reimaging are currently under wraps. All three original films were directed by Levy, who will remain as producer for the new film.Netflix released the first trailer for season 2 of their hit show Wednesday. Part 1 of the series debuts on August 6 followed by Part 2 on September 3.HBO Max has formally greenlit Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a Big Bang Theory spin off comedy that will center on comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom played by Kevin Sussman, who had a heavily recurring role on the original CBS series. The show comes from Big Bang Theory co-creators Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Zak Penn — and unlike the original series and its other spinoffs, it will feature a heavy dose of sci-fi alongside its comedy, including multiversal elements.Peacock has set an official release date for The Office spinoff series The Paper. The show will debut its first four episodes on September 4, followed by two new episodes every Thursday through September 25.Murderbot has been renewed for a second season at Apple TV+ after airing its season one finale on July 11.Star Wars creator George Lucas is coming to San Diego Comic-Con for his first-ever panel.
