V8SP: Dean Canto (Part 2)
This week’s edition of the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Autobarn features Supercars race winner and two-time Super2 Series winner Dean Canto.
A second-generation racer, we start the final leg of our two-part chat with Canto talking about his 2004 enduro drives with a pre-powerhouse Triple Eight, his 2005 Development Series title with Dick Johnson Racing, and the moment he feels cost him a shot at driving full-time for Triple Eight in 2006.
We then cover his time at Garry Rogers Motorsport, a period that delivered his first and only solo Supercars race win, but it’s a period Canto doesn’t look back on too fondly – we’ll let him explain why…
He opens up about the stunt driving school he ran with Luke Youlden, his Supercars co-driver era – including the time he and Youlden ended up both driving for FPR without either’s prior knowledge! – Bathurst 1000 heartbreaks with David Reynolds, their Gold Coast 600 triumph, and the plans for a third-generation racing Canto.

V8SP: Dean Canto (Part 1)
This week’s edition of the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Autobarn features Supercars race winner and two-time Super2 Series winner Dean Canto.
A second-generation racer, we start the first leg of our two-part chat with Canto talking about what he’s up to now and whether we’ll see him back in a racecar any time soon.
We then look back through the early years of his career, from coming to prominence in - of all things - a Maserati Ghibli, to landing a drive in Supercars’ brand new second-tier series and going on to become its first champion.
He then describes his rocky early years in the ‘main game’, including a false start with an elite squad in 2001, a couple of years of enduro co-drives followed by a shot at moving into the championship full-time for 2003. However, as he describes, it was hardly a dream situation for a rookie driver - one who’d been signed to a 10-year management contract...

V8SP: Cameron Crick
This week’s edition of the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Autobarn features rising Supercars racer Cameron Crick.
The son of six-time Australian Truck Racing Champion Rodney, the second-generation racer’s story is one of perseverence.
Crick talks about the grind that has been hand-and-hand with his rise through the sport, including his approach to securing sponsorship partners and delivering them value that is a must-listen for any aspiring young racer.
He also opens up on the loss of his father, his memories of his father’s truck racing and a hilarious story about the chance to drive one of Rodney’s race trucks and how it came to a sudden end.
Cam also details the point at which he nearly quit racing entirely during his debut Super2 season, and how he bounced back from that to make his Supercars debut and win this year’s Bathurst 6 Hour.

V8SP: Cameron McLean (Part 2)
This week’s edition of the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Autobarn features popular V8 Supercars and Super Touring privateer Cameron McLean.
The Queenslander was a fixture of touring car racing grids in the 1990s and early 2000s in the yellow hues of Greenfield Mowers, initially in two-litre racing in a variety of ex-factory machines before making the leap to V8s with Ford Falcons.
Among the second and final part of our two-part chat with Cam are his years of being a Supercars team co-owner, including his side of the story of his team’s car being seized and impounded in the middle of a race weekend. He also shares a sliding-doors moment that nearly led him to a full-time factory V8 Supercars drive, his time as a hired gun for the V8 enduros, and his scary roll in Carrera Cup at Queensland Raceway.
