Former U.S. Navy F-14 Tomcat RIO “Boomer” shares the incredible story of his exchange tour with the Royal Air Force, where he flew the Tornado F3 with 56 Squadron at RAF Coningsby. From the unique RAF–US Navy exchange programme and training on the Hawk T1 at RAF Chivenor, to low-level flying across the UK and becoming an instructor on the F3, Boomer offers a rare insider’s perspective on both the Tomcat and Tornado communities.

He discusses the similarities and differences between the F-14 and the Tornado F3, RAF tactics, air combat training, low-level flying, and the famous British culture of banter, mess life, and squadron parties. Along the way, he shares unforgettable stories about flying with legendary RAF pilots, training the RAF’s first female fighter pilot, and the lifelong friendships that grew from the exchange programme.
