In part two of Red Eye Radio with Gary McNamara and Eric Harley, with just weeks before Election Day, Democratic engagement and positive ratings give Democrat James Talarico a razor-thin edge over Republican Ken Paxton in what is, so far, shaping up to be a photo finish for the Lone Star State’s U.S. Senate seat. This analysis, released Thursday, is among Texas likely voters, unless otherwise noted. Talarico enjoys a net positive personal rating of 8 points (52% favorable vs. 44% unfavorable), while Paxton’s is underwater by 18 points (40% vs. 58%). Republicans are six times more likely to view Paxton unfavorably (32%) than Democrats do Talarico (5%).

In part one of Red Eye Radio with Gary McNamara and Eric Harley, the lone woman on Tennessee’s death row was still alive on Wednesday night after she was administered two lethal injections, according to her lawyer. Convicted Tennessee killer Christa Pike's legal team said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night that the attempted execution did not kill her. At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said the executioners had "injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing, according to The Associated Press. Pike, 50, was 18 in 1995 when she, her boyfriend and another person beat, kicked and stabbed their 19-year-old classmate Colleen Slemmer to death in a brutal "satanic" attack that Pike claimed took between 30 minutes and an hour, according to court documents.

The Texas Senate candidate posted a riff on X about how the Bible is the foundation of his progressivism. Supposedly, through happy coincidence, our Savior agrees with Talarico about important planks of the Democratic platform circa 2026. “When Jesus healed the sick,” the Democrat said, “He didn’t ask for a deductible. So, when I fight for universal health care, I’m doing it on biblical grounds.” This is the kind of cheap misuse of Scripture that Talarico, a former seminarian, finds irresistible.
