The Alisa Childers Podcast

Hot flashes, brain fog, anxiety, mood swings, sleepless nights... menopause can turn your world upside down! But how do we navigate these very real physical and emotional challenges while remaining faithful to Christ?

In part two of our series on menopause, I'm joined by some familiar voices from the world of Christian theology and apologetics who are getting personal about their own experiences with perimenopause and menopause.

Rosaria Butterfield, Shanda Fulbright, Korey Cooper, Krista Bontrager, Monique Duson, Patti Height, Katy Faust, and Teasi Cannon share honest stories, practical advice, biblical wisdom, and even a few laughs about this often-overlooked season of life.

We talk about everything from managing anxiety and intrusive thoughts to finding medical help, cultivating self-control, building supportive Christian friendships, and learning to trust God's Word when our emotions seem completely out of control.

Whether you're in the thick of perimenopause, navigating postmenopause, or preparing for what's ahead, this conversation is filled with encouragement and hope. Our bodies may be changing, but God's faithfulness never does. And this season of life can be an opportunity not just to endure, but to grow in wisdom, holiness, and our love for Christ.

What does it look like to remain faithful to Christ when your hormones feel like they’re crashing out?

In this first episode of a two-part series on perimenopause and menopause, Alisa shares her own experience with hot flashes, sleep disruption, anxiety, and intense mental and emotional symptoms—and how learning to care for both her spiritual and physical health changed everything.

She is joined by physician assistant Hillary Morrison, who has spent more than a decade working in functional and integrative medicine. Together, they discuss what actually happens to a woman’s hormones during perimenopause, common symptoms to watch for, why some women struggle more than others, and the connection between hormonal changes, sleep, mood, weight, and overall health.

They also discuss hormone replacement therapy, progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, testing options, nutritional deficiencies, thyroid and gut health, and how women can advocate for themselves when seeking medical care.

Most importantly, Alisa and Hillary consider these questions through a Christian worldview. Hormonal changes may make obedience more difficult, but they do not define us or excuse sin. At the same time, caring for the physical body God has given us is not somehow less spiritual.

Whether you are currently in perimenopause, preparing for it, or trying to better understand a woman you love, this conversation offers practical information, biblical encouragement, and hope for navigating this season faithfully.

The New Apostolic Reformation has become increasingly influential in churches, worship music, conferences, and even politics—but what exactly is it, and how can Christians recognize its teachings?

In this episode, I’m joined by filmmaker Brandon Kimber, director and editor of the American Gospel films, to discuss the newest installment, American Gospel: Spirit & Fire, an 18-episode documentary series examining the New Apostolic Reformation.

We talk about the defining beliefs of the NAR, including modern-day apostles and prophets, claims of new revelation, the five-fold ministry, prosperity theology, and the movement’s understanding of spiritual authority. We also discuss why many leaders associated with these teachings reject the NAR label, and how Christians can evaluate the movement based on its actual theology and practices rather than labels alone.

We also dig into one of the biggest questions listeners had after my previous episode: What exactly is a “NAR song”? Brandon explains how NAR theology can find its way into worship music through Bethel Music and other ministries, and we discuss how Christians and church leaders can think carefully and biblically about the songs they sing.

Finally, we address the growing intersection between NAR leaders and conservative politics, the danger of compromising gospel clarity for political influence, and why faithfulness to the biblical gospel must remain central.

If you’ve been wondering what the NAR is, how to identify it, or why Spirit & Fire was created, this conversation will help you understand the movement and the theological concerns surrounding it.

Have you ever wanted to share the gospel with a Muslim but felt intimidated because you don’t know enough about Islam?

In this episode, I’m joined by Elle ISO, who regularly engages Muslims through street evangelism and apologetics. She shares practical ways Christians can begin meaningful conversations, ask good questions, explain who Jesus is, and respond when they don’t know the answer.

We also discuss some of the key differences between Christianity and Islam, the Islamic dilemma, questions surrounding Muhammad, common objections Muslims raise against Christianity, and some of the biggest barriers Muslims face when considering the gospel.

You don’t need a degree in Islamic theology to have a meaningful conversation with a Muslim. You need to know the gospel, be willing to ask questions, and be prepared to point people to Jesus.

What does the Bible actually teach about church leadership—and what happens when a pastor is treated as “God’s anointed man” whose board exists to strengthen his hand rather than hold him accountable?

In this episode, I respond to anepisode of the Resurge podcast hosted by pastors Josh Howerton and Josh McPherson, in which they lay out their vision for building a “wartime church.” I compare their model of leadership with the New Testament qualifications and responsibilities of elders and deacons, Jesus’ teaching on servant leadership, and the biblical warnings against domineering leadership.

I also explains why I connected aspects of their leadership model with the New Apostolic Reformation and address criticism that I should have handled my concerns privately under Matthew 18.

Rather than asking you take my word for it, I encourage Christians to listen to the full context, open their Bibles, and ask a crucial question: Is this how the New Testament describes leadership in Christ’s church?
