The UN has expressed concern over the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, as conflict in the Middle East escalates.
The waterway, which carries about a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, has been paralysed for six days, as Iran, Israel and the US continue to trade strikes in the region.
Several nations have been dragged into the violence, including Lebanon - which has seen more than 50 people die due to attacks.
The war has killed more than a thousand people in Iran and around a dozen in Israel, and several more in surrounding Gulf nations.
The Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says it's too early for ceasefire talks in Iran and has instead joined Australia's prime minister in calling for a de-escalation in the widening conflict.
Mr Carney has today addressed the Australian Parliament before signing a series of new agreements to deepen collaboration between the two countries on critical minerals, artificial intelligence, defence and clean energy.
He says Canada and Australia want to see a broad de-escalation of hostilities but Iran must not be able to obtain a nuclear weapon.
The latest schools data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows parents continuing to flock to independent schools, with more than 1.5 million Australian students now attending private schools.
The data also shows that for the first time in sixyears the number of students finishing year 12 increased modestly to 81.3 per cent.
