  • 555 - The Wampler Cryptid is a beast of a fuzz pedal - and we try a super inexpensive compressor!
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 555 of the Chasing Tone Podcast -  The Wampler Cryptid is a beast of a fuzz pedal - and we try a super inexpensive compressor! Somebody has been hanging out with legends and it is not Brian this time and Richard stuffs his face as a result. He had been to see Albert Lee and was mightily impressed. He learned some interesting and encouraging tips by having front row seats and is excited to tell us about it and he is also inspired and may have found the fountain of youth before the caffeine kicks in.Have you ever heard about the Indian Tar Pit squid? It is a type of cryptid that inspired the concept for the all new Wampler Cryptid Fuzz pedal. The guys touch on it before Richard shoots off in a completely random direction because he has bought an incredibly cheap pedal. He is then confused by film ratings. The industry mourns the passing of a legend so the guys touch on it and Blake gives us a bit of history to add context. Brian discovers he was in a book and it took him by surprise and also did an interview with some folk from Richard's part of the world. Blake has to leave early and so the guys go on a deep dive into an inexpensive pedal brand and are really impressed. Tweed amp woes, Chainsaw juggling, We released a new fuzz, Hello Sailor, Germanium plans...it’s all in this week’s Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: [email protected] the show

  • 554 - Session legend Tim Pierce tells us about his gear choices and his amazing career
Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by a very special guest this week for Episode 554 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Session legend Tim Pierce tells us about his gear choices and his amazing career The guys are joined by a very special guest, Tim Pierce, one of the greatest session guitarists of the modern era and an extraordinary teacher. Tim tells us about how he found the perfect work / life balance having spent four decades working with some of the greatest musicians of all time. It would be easier to tell you about the artists he hasn't played with than those he has. Blake asks him about what it's like to be THE guitar guy and Tim breaks down some great recommendations for budget guitars and budget rigs. Brian and he discuss the new breed of modelers and Richard tries to wangle a freebie. Tim has great taste in amplifiers and Richard is very impressed. He also goes a bit fanboy crazy when a certain British band-member is mentioned and Brian has to tell him off before Tim tells us some insanely cool inside track stories. Tim tells us about some of his early gear choices before Brian asks him about his masterclass website and how that took off. It's a fascinating look into how Tim saw the writing on the wall in the music industry and pivoted to fit. You are going to absolutely love this episode - Tim is incredibly generous with his time and very candid with his stories.Child labor can be ethical, Sire, Tonex, Jeff Beck, No Jazz, 80's gear fetishes...it’s all in this week’s Chasing Tone!www.timpierce.comWe are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: [email protected] the show

  • 553 - The state of the pedal industry in 2025 and are guitars getting more expensive?
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 553 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - The state of the pedal industry in 2025 and are guitars getting more expensive?  Blake has another special hat and Richard has Black Sabbath FOMO before making some eggs-asperatingly poor jokes and discussing coffee. Josh Scott of JHS has written a great substack article about the state of the pedal industry and Richard misses the point as he shows off his ink pens. The guys then talk about the article and the guys chat about how they see the state of the market currently. Richard predicts that the prices of guitars are gong to climb up and Brian struggles to stay awake so starts to look at the all new cast iron Plumes and Blumes. JHS have released an Oil Can delay too and Richard learns about the original mechanical unit and his mind is audibly blown.  Richard also causes Brian to foam at the mouth before discussing what he thinks the future for aging podcasters may be. Brian confesses to some incredibly bizarre nocturnal activities and Richard attempts to use science before Blake gets into a fight. Does the perfect guitar neck exist? The guys asks the question and then some bizarre other questions. The BOSS Katana go went but is now back...Richard's private stash, Cast Iron Pedals, The Wampler Egg Carton Delay, Brian Setzer, Gentleman's relish...it’s all in this week’s Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: [email protected] the show

  • 552 - I never fell in love with a pedal like I fell in love with this one...
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 552 of the Chasing Tone Podcast -  I never fell in love with a pedal like I fell in love with this one...  Richard has been trying to buy the hottest tickets in town - the last ever Black Sabbath concert (well, since their last final concert) - and was miserable and somewhat flummoxed with the results. The guys duly discuss what might be the most amazing rock concert this decade and Brian and Blake stage an intervention for Richard. There is some Super Bowl talked but mainly from the perspective of a confused Englishman. Jack White made a statement about performance length reality vs. expectations and it generated some controversy so the guys chat about it. Brian has some advice that may involve throwing pedals at artists. He also has some practical tips for gigging guitarists which he details as the guys look at the differences in their own individual approaches to learning. Blake is still in love with his Wampler EGO 76 so the guys talk about it again and everyone agrees it is a wonderful pedal. Things turn a little weird before focus is returned to an article about the state of the pedal industry and the return of the Portland Cube...Gentle Ben, Fantasy Halftime, Catapulpacomb, Travis Feaster, The Shaggs...it’s all in this week’s Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: [email protected] the show

  • 551 - Tracii Guns tells us about his favorite pedals, plugins, and pajamas!
Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by a very special guest this week for Episode 551 of the Chasing Tone Podcast -  Tracii Guns tells us about his favorite pedals, plugins, and pajamas!   Please be aware this episode contains infrequent swearing and drug references - not suitable for minors! This week the guys are pretty stoked to have one of Brian's all-time guitar heroes on the show. Tracii Guns is a legendary LA based guitarist, super talented player, and happens to be the founding member of a couple of huge bands you may have heard of. He also has a vast amount of stories and anecdotes to recount...and they are seriously funny. Brian drills straight into the culture of the Sunset Strip scene of the 1980s as the guys take a "behind the scenes" peek into the LA rock scene of that era. Tracii talks about some of the legendary bands he played alongside when LA Guns first made it, including Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, WASP, and a whole bunch more. Richard looks at the differences between the English and the US Music scene of that period and Tracii has some great insights and a mutual love of some classic British bands.Blake asks about the early days of Grunge and how that changed the direction of rock and Tracii gives us a candid and hilarious take on how that played out and what it meant for the musicians of the time. Tracii then tells us how Brian helped him through an existential rig crisis and you might be surprised by the fixes they came up with.http://www.lagunsmusic.com/ The Nigels, The Rock Sock, Kid Creole, Steve Vai, Rockman stories...it’s all in this week’s Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdVrg4Wl3vjIxonABn6RfWwContact us at: [email protected] the show
