El Chino is one of Sydney's true musical treasures — a selector who has been schooling us for years through his weekly show Departure Lounge, every Saturday afternoon on 2SER FM. He's put us onto so much amazing music over the years, so it was only fitting he kicked things off for our birthday. An all-vinyl set played outdoors, wind and dust storms and all, while people grooved in the courtyard.

Sydney’s own producer, beatmaker and crate-digging legend DJ SOUP set the tone at the SOUL OF SYDNEY 2025 season opener with a smooth and sun-soaked session of feel-good grooves. His 60 min selection was a masterclass in laid-back rhythm and deep musical knowledge, weaving together acid jazz, funk, golden-era hip hop and soulful instrumentals that perfectly matched the afternoon’s easy energy.

Known for his seamless blends and razor-sharp ear for dusty breaks, DJ SOUP took dancers and loungers alike on a journey through rare grooves, jazzy samples and head-nodding beats that celebrated the roots of soulful street culture.
