A classic mixtape from Sydney crate digger, DJ & producer MK-1, pulled from the SOUL OF SYDNEY archives, circa 2013.

A sonic story told through music, from one of our favourite local selectors — DJ MK-1.

MK-1 Presents Malika (2013) is a deep, layered journey through hip hop, funk, soul and deep grooves, put together by a seasoned Sydney selector who has been doing his thing since the early '90s.

One of the first DJs we went out and listened to back in the day, MK-1 was already playing bars, clubs and block parties around Sydney — and he's still doing it today.

We've caught him everywhere from Caterpillar Club and Dean & Nancy's to the many Sydney spots where good music and serious selectors have found a home.

A proper crate digger with a knack for finding gems and connecting sounds from all over the place. You never quite know where MK-1 is going to take you, but there's always something good waiting around the corner.

Back from the SOUL OF SYDNEY archives! We recently rediscovered this forgotten gem on an old hard drive a tribute mix recorded by DJ HAMO Tevita in 2009 following the passing of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

This mix was on heavy rotation back in the day, featuring Michael Jackson edits, bootlegs, remixes, rare versions and classic funk, soul, disco and R&B club cuts. A timeless tribute celebrating one of the greatest entertainers of all time.

El Chino is one of Sydney's true musical treasures — a selector who has been schooling us for years through his weekly show Departure Lounge, every Saturday afternoon on 2SER FM. He's put us onto so much amazing music over the years, so it was only fitting he kicked things off for our birthday. An all-vinyl set played outdoors, wind and dust storms and all, while people grooved in the courtyard.
