the next: is the algorithm setting the women's sports agenda?

    25/02/2026 | 51 mins.
THE NEXT is a monthly podcast from The Female Athlete Project.
Each episode, futurist and former athlete Reanna Browne joins Chloe and Bez to explore what’s changing in women’s sport, before it hits the headlines.
We shine a light on the pockets of the future already here - the signals of change that are quietly [or not-so-quietly] reshaping women's sport in the present. Not to predict what’s coming, but to notice what’s already in motion.
This week, we discuss five signals of change around how the algorithm quietly is quietly who gets seen, picked, paid, and protected in women’s sport — and who sets the rules of the machine in the first place.

learning to 'do it til you're comfy' with mountain bike rider haz burbidge-smith

    18/02/2026 | 47 mins.
For the first 20 years of her career, Haz Burbidge-Smith was an avid BMX rider – winning multiple world and Australian Championships, with her focus set on fulfilling her Olympic dream.
But then she discovered her true passion – Mountain Bike Riding - and hasn’t looked back since.
But in 2024, Haz suffered what she thought was a broken hand, which later turned out to be a broken hand, neck and wrist. Lucky to be where she is, Haz has since been on an incredible journey to get back on the bike and return to the competitive slopestyle scene.
Haz opens up about choosing a sport for fulfilment rather than societal expectations, learning to embrace her fear to take on gnarly tricks, and her emotional journey back on the bike just 6 MONTHS after surgery. This weekend, Haz will compete in Crankworx Christchurch as a wildcard, out to show herself and her fellow riders why she deserves a spot on tour. We hope you enjoy this episode.
