Wake Up Sydney – Weather, Traffic and Trains (Sat 23 May 2026)
Rise and shine, Sydney! Today’s episode helps you navigate a showery Saturday with the latest on the weather, road incidents, and major rail disruptions across the network. Pack the brolly, leave a little earlier, and let’s get you where you’re going.
Weather: In the CBD it’s 14.9°C (feels like 13.6°C) on the way to a top of 22°C with showers increasing—umbrellas advised. Parramatta starts cool before a mild, showery top. Bondi stays showery with tops in the low 20s—perfect cozy jumper weather by the coast.
Traffic: Captain Cook Bridge/Rocky Point Rd is closed in both directions between Fontainebleau St and Holt Rd after a two-car crash (Sans Souci–Taren Point). Detour via Princes Hwy and Tom Uglys Bridge. In Werrington, the Great Western Hwy at Gipps St has lane 1 of 3 closed eastbound after a multi-vehicle crash—merge early and expect delays. In Darlinghurst, a broken-down truck on the Eastern Distributor northbound near the William St off-ramp is also causing hold-ups.
Trains – Planned trackwork: On the South Coast and T4 Illawarra lines, buses replace trains between Dapto/Port Kembla and Sutherland from 3:00am–11:30am. T4 is running between Sutherland and Bondi Junction only. First through services: 10:13am from Bondi Jct (southbound) and 12:08pm from Wollongong (arrives Kiama 12:52pm). On the Cronulla Line, buses replace trains between Cronulla and Sutherland all weekend, with extra buses Waterfall–Sutherland until 11:30am today. For the Inner West & T1 Western lines, buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville all weekend; Inner West services operate Ashfield–City Circle only from 6:30am–10:30am today.
Trains – Unplanned disruptions: Due to vandalism affecting power at Clyde, expect delays up to 30 minutes on the Western Line. Richmond Line trains are terminating at Blacktown. From the City on the North Shore Line, delays are up to 20 minutes, with the Blue Mountains Line also up to 20 minutes late. Between Central and Chatswood, use Metro where possible.
