Artist Friendly with Joel Madden

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Ziggy Marley.

Marley was only 12 years old when his father died, but he’s carried on his legacy, putting out multiple albums, launching a record label, and producing the 2024 film Bob Marley: One Love.

Before the release of his ninth full-length, Brightside, Marley stopped by the Artist Friendly studio for a grounded, soulful conversation with Madden. The two go deep on the making of his record, the song he wrote as a love letter to his father, and what it means to find your path without imitating someone else.

“We all have a purpose here, so I’m just doing my part,” he tells Madden. “I’m not trying to be the brain if I’m the heart.”

After years of building a fanbase from scratch, Slayyyter’s new album, WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA, feels like her breakout.

The record lives in the same vein as Lady Gaga, Metro Station, and Marina and the Diamonds, reflecting a desire to be “nostalgic but also take it to a place that reminded me of the punk music my skater friends would show me when I was in St. Louis or seeing a Lana Del Rey GIF for the first time on Tumblr.”

Before its release, the pop artist stopped by the Artist Friendly studio. Sitting across from Madden, she dives into growing up in St. Louis, staying DIY on a major label, and what it took to finally feel confident in her art.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by 2 Chainz.

2 Chainz first came up in the Atlanta hip-hop scene as part of Playaz Circle in the 2000s, though he landed a solo record deal on the strength of his T.R.U. REALigion mixtape in 2011 — as well as verses on Kanye West’s “Mercy” and Nicki Minaj’s “Beez in the Trap” the following year.

From there, the rapper broadened his circle, appearing in the video for Fall Out Boy’s “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up),” guesting on the remix, and bringing the band out during his Coachella performance in 2013.

Stopping by the Artist Friendly studio, 2 Chainz joins Madden for a thoughtful conversation about therapy, fatherhood, and writing his first book, The Voice in My Head Is God.
