We have officially made it to Dance Moms season 6… but this is nowhere near the same show Christi and Kelly were once on.

The old Pittsburgh studio feeling is long gone. The team is in Los Angeles, Candy Apples has basically become BDA, Maddie is off filming a movie, Brynn and Ashlee are walking in, and Abby is suddenly insisting this season is all about training, technique, and getting “back to the beginning.”

Except everything feels like it is moving further and further away from the beginning.

This week, Christi and Kelly break down a premiere full of double standards, new threats, old loyalty fights, and Abby trying to keep control as the Dance Moms machine starts shifting around her. Plus, Jill is questioning what Abby has really done for Kendall, Brynn is being positioned as the next big thing, Nia and JoJo are still fighting for space, and everyone can feel Maddie’s future starting to move outside the ALDC.

Welcome back to our REWIND series! Christi and Kelly are going back through the archive, re-editing, and re-uploading our old episodes — in order, from the very beginning of Dance Moms.

This week, they’re revisiting season 2 episode 3, “Brooke’s Turning Point,” where Brooke is suddenly forced into one of the messiest choices of her time on the show: dance or cheerleading.

But looking back now, Kelly says that storyline was never as simple as it looked. Brooke wanted to do normal teenager things with her friends, and Kelly wanted to let her figure that out for herself. Instead, Dance Moms turned it into a full team betrayal, with Abby blaming Brooke, the group competing without her, and everyone acting like one cheer tryout could ruin the entire weekend.

Christi and Kelly break down what really happened behind the scenes, why Kelly still feels bad about how Brooke was portrayed, and how producers turned a regular kid wanting a normal life into classic reality TV drama.

Dance Moms finally tried an episode with no moms allowed... but it doesn't really pan out like you'd hope.

Christi and Kelly recap the girls-only special that previews season six, where the team answers questions about boys, competition, Abby’s pep talks, the music video drama, and what they hope happens next. On paper, it sounds like a fun idea: let the girls talk, keep the moms out of it, and give fans a lighter look at the team before season six.

But it just doesn't click, mostly because the same old problems still sneak in. Nia has to sit there while Abby rips apart her “Slay” video. Mackenzie is still being measured against Maddie. The girls are still explaining Abby’s behavior. And the season six preview makes it pretty clear the drama is not going anywhere.

No moms. Barely any Abby. Still somehow all about Abby.
