Episode #077: What Happens To Those Who Never Hear About Jesus?

    29/06/2026 | 19 mins.
It’s one of the most common—and challenging—questions asked by believers and skeptics alike: What happens to the person in the remote corners of the world who dies without ever hearing the name of Jesus?

In this episode of Cage Free Theology, hosts Clint Archer and Will Brannon tackle this heavy topic head-on. They break down popular cultural and religious perspectives, contrast them with orthodox Christian scripture, and explore what the Bible actually says about God's justice, human accountability, and the urgent reality of the gospel.

🔍 What's discussed in the episode:

-Universalism vs. Inclusivism: Why the idea that "everyone goes to heaven" or that "all religions lead to the same God" doesn't hold up under biblical scrutiny (and a surprising quote from C.S. Lewis).
-The Romans 10 Progression: How Paul’s argument for missions completely falls apart if people can be saved without hearing the gospel.
-Are There Any "Innocent" People? A deep dive into Romans 1 and how creation and human conscience leave humanity "without excuse" before a holy God.
-Providence and Preparation: How God uses dreams, visions, and circumstances to prepare the soil of a heart—and why He still chooses human beings instead of angels to plant the seed of the gospel.

Episode #076: A Look Inside Our First SBC Annual Meeting

    22/06/2026 | 21 mins.
What happens when 18,000 messengers gather in an Orlando convention center to run the largest business meeting in the evangelical world?  You get the annual Southern Baptist Convention!

In this episode of Cage-Free Theology, Clint Archer and Will Brannon recap their very first time attending the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) Annual Meeting in person. Transitioning from a skepticism of denominational bureaucracy to being pleasantly surprised by the "festive," spiritual atmosphere, Clint and Will break down exactly what the SBC is, how its unique flat authority structure functions, and why it matters to the local church.

They dive deep into the headline-grabbing "Mohler Amendment" (the Truth and Unity Amendment regarding qualifications for the pastorate) explaining what actually passed, correcting sensationalized mainstream media reporting, and highlighting why loopholes in "friendly cooperation" forced a constitutional vote. From double-amputee introductions and high-school pages to a joke resolution about coffee, Clint and Will share their favorite moments, biggest surprises, and a rallying cry for why pastors need to show up to Indianapolis next year to see the vote through.

    Topics covered in this episode:

Episode #074: How To Do Family Devotions

    08/06/2026 | 26 mins.
Do the words "family devotions" conjure up images of perfectly behaved children sitting in a quiet circle, hanging onto your every word? If so, you aren’t alone—but you might also be setting yourself up for a lot of frustration!  You may also be asking what plan do I use?  What books are right for my family?  Where do I start?  Start here!

In this episode of Cage-Free Theology, Clint Archer and Will Brannon take off the pressure and dive into the messy, joyful, and highly rewarding world of family worship. Moving past the guilt of not waking their households before dawn like Jonathan Edwards, Clint and Will share practical, real-life advice from their own experiences raising kids across different age brackets (from toddlers to college students).

    Inside the Episode:
-Redefining the "Quiet Time": Breaking down what a family devotion actually looks like—Bible intake, prayer, and spiritual discussion tailored to your unique household.
-The Biblical Blueprint: Exploring a husband and father’s responsibility to lead the home spiritually, drawing from Ephesians 5 and historical wisdom from the Puritans and C.H. Spurgeon.
-Embracing the Chaos: Practical tips for families with young children, including keeping it short, acting out Bible stories, using music, and pushing through the initial "growing pains" of building a routine.
-Transitioning to Teen Years: How to move away from formal lessons and toward organic conversation, using everyday moments like car rides or dinner-table games like Rose and Thorn and a Proverb of the Day.
-A Partnership of Grace: A candid confession on the struggle for consistency and why it's okay (and necessary!) for husbands to lean on their wives for help with the routine.

Whether you are bringing a newborn home from the hospital, managing a chaotic living room of toddlers, or trying to connect with busy teenagers, this episode is a reassuring reminder that consistency beats perfection every single time. Turn off the guilt, embrace the chaos, and learn how to make discussing the Lord the most natural rhythm in your home.

Episode #073 What Does The Bible Actually Say About Divorce & Remarriage?

    01/06/2026 | 35 mins.
What does the Bible teach about divorce and remarriage? It’s a question that brings immense heartache, pastoral complexity, and cultural confusion. In this episode of Cage Free Theology, Clint Archer and Will Brannon unpack the big-picture biblical principles governing marriage, its lifelong design, and the very narrow conditions under which the Bible permits its dissolution.

Clint kicks off the conversation with a jaw-dropping look at his very first marital counseling case in South Africa involving a Zulu believer, an unbelieving husband, and sudden polygamy—a perfect example of just how messy real-world relationships can get.

    In this episode:
-The Blueprint: Why a biblical understanding of divorce must begin with God's original creation design for marriage in Genesis 2.
-The "First Domino": A deep look into how "no-fault divorce" undermines the true nature of marriage and the gospel just as much as broader cultural shifts.
-The Narrow Exceptions: An analysis of Jesus’s words in Matthew 19 regarding sexual immorality (porneia) and Paul’s instructions in 1 Corinthians 7 regarding abandonment by an unbeliever.
-A Pastoral Compass: Real talk on how physical abuse functions as abandonment, the vital role of local church elders, and why you shouldn't use a podcast to make your final decision.

    Pastoral Advice For Three Groups:
-The Single Person: Why it is far better to stay single for life than to marry the wrong person or unequally yoke yourself to an unbeliever.
-The Married Couple: Why a miserable marriage isn't fixed by divorce, but by fighting for redemption, pursuing wise counsel, and mirroring Christ's love for the Church.
-The Divorced Believer: A message of radical grace, complete forgiveness, and the path forward for those carrying the weight of a past unbiblical divorce.

A Note To Our Listeners: Marriage and divorce cases are incredibly nuanced. If you are currently facing a difficult marriage or considering separation, please do not walk alone. We urge you to take your specific situation to the pastors and elders of your local church who know you, love you, and can offer personalized, godly counsel.

About Cage Free Theology
"Cage Free Theology" is a weekly Bible Q&A discussion with two Baptist, Calvinist, and Premillennial, pastors. As Spurgeon said, there's no need to defend a lion in a cage; simply open the cage door and the lion will fend for itself! We don't defend a preconceived system of theology, we just let the Bible speak for itself, and we go wherever a literal hermeneutic takes us.The hosts are pastors Clint Archer (MDiv, ThM, DMin, PhD) and Will Brannon (MDiv, DMin), based at Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. They both trained at The Master's Seminary and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and between the two of them they have nearly 30 years of full-time ministry experience. Much of that has involved fielding questions from new believers, old believers, and unbelievers, and then sharing what the Bible has to say on a wide array of topics. They will cover subjects with their engaging and light-hearted banter, including explaining theology, offering interpretations of various difficult Bible passages, discussing counseling scenarios, and even the nuts and bolts of ministry and expository preaching. (Clint occasionally digresses about how animals should live cage-free while Will reminds him of the appeal of meat!) Each episode addresses one main question, without rambling or irrelevant interjections, to equip listeners to answer questions they have, or questions they get asked by friends. Subscribers get to send in their questions too!Jesus came to set us free, so beware of manmade cages!
