Uncut Presents: FX Maestro Dan Martin on Bad Taste, Parents & F – Practical Effects, Horror Classics & Creative Influences

    22/03/2026 | 1h 20 mins.
Welcome back to Uncut—a little later than planned, but we’re thrilled to finally launch Uncut Presents, a brand‑new series where we invite a filmmaker to explore three films that shaped them: one that influenced them, one they love, and one of their own.

Our debut guest is Dan Martin, the FX wizard behind Possessor, Color Out of Space, Infinity Pool, In the Earth, and countless other genre favorites. Dan sits down with us to break down three wildly different films:

Bad Taste (Peter Jackson, 1987) – the low‑budget splatter classic that inspired a generation of DIY filmmakers.

Parents (Bob Balaban, 1989) – a darkly comic, underappreciated gem that Dan loves.

F (Johannes Roberts, 2010) – a taut British horror from Dan’s own filmography.

This episode is the full, uncut conversation—available now in audio on Spotify. Prefer to watch? Head over to The Geek Show on YouTube, where the video version has been split into three standalone episodes, one per film, so you can dive deep into each movie at your own pace.

Coming next: another first—They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead, a new franchise‑based podcast. There’s too much to squeeze into one description, so stay tuned. Follow the Geek Show on Instagram, BlueSky, Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date with all the happenings on Uncut and Beyond.

We will be having a little break for now, just as I address and get the ball rolling on the interview portion of the podcast going forward, and get pre-production rolling on my second short film. It's called MARA, and hopefully it is coming to a film festival near you in 2026.

Until next time, thanks for listening. The video version will drop soon on YouTube, but given how much more is required to edit that, it'll be with you as soon as we can manage.

    23/12/2025 | 1h 18 mins.
It’s the Uncut Network Christmas Special! Join Rob, Kat, Caitlyn, and Faye for a holiday episode that’s a little different. We’re not talking about Santa or heart-warming family tales. We’re diving into the best stealth Christmas movies — films and specials set during the holidays but that aren't about the holidays. These are the perfect picks for when the main event is over and you want something with a bit more… edge.

This eclectic list is packed with wild and wonderful picks perfect for Boxing Day and beyond. Consider this your official warning: some of these inclusions get pretty adult. Don't expect all-ages recommendations here, unless your family has a famously filthy sense of humour! We’re spoiling the movie titles in the timestamps, so dive in blind or skip ahead to see if your favourite made the list.

Kurt Russell: Escape from New York, John Carpenter, Tombstone & The Last of the Movie Stars

    17/12/2025 | 1h 29 mins.
Join hosts Rob & Andy on the Uncut podcast for a deep-dive discussion on the legendary career of Kurt Russell.

This episode breaks down his most iconic roles, from the anti-hero Snake Plissken in Escape from New York to the stoic lawman Wyatt Earp in Tombstone, and deciphers the chaotic buddy-cop energy of Tango & Cash with Sylvester Stallone.

The conversation explores what makes a true movie star—a theme echoed by Quentin Tarantino—and how a film like Tombstone, anchored by Val Kilmer's iconic turn as Doc Holliday, transcends its genre. From a curious start on Donnie Darko to the state of modern Hollywood, this is a must-listen for fans of 80s action, 90s classics, and cinematic legacy.
