  • Fiona Weaver on Quieting the noise and tuning into the needs of her baby
I am so happy to be bringing you this conversation with my dear friend Fiona Weaver. Fiona Weaver is social worker with expertise in perinatal mental health and a passion for providing education about biologically normal infant sleep. She is a mother of two, very soon to be three, and is the woman behind Mama Matters, and the Mama Chatters podcast. Through her work, she is shaking up the mainstream sleep industry with compassion and integrity, providing parents with the confidence, validation and honest sleep support they deserve. In this beautiful chat, Fiona opens up about her pre-parenthood expectations, the unexpected revelations she encountered as a mother, and her transformative journey of surrender and acceptance. She candidly describes the constant balancing act between following her own instincts and responding to her baby's needs, while also navigating the influx of advice often given to first-time moms. Together, we explore the trials of motherhood, the influence of ego in parenting, and the innate desire to conform and be accepted by peers. Fiona graciously imparts her wisdom on embracing imperfection, relying on intuition, the pitfalls of martyrdom, and her most significant areas of personal growth since embarking on motherhood. I hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much as I enjoyed having it. You can find out more about Fiona at the below places: www.mamamatters.com.auhttps://www.instagram.com/mamamatters.au Here is where you can find out more about me (Yara), how to work with me and some resources:@lifeafterbirthpsychologywww.lifeafterbirth.com.auFree Inner Critic WorkbookInfo & Waitlist for The Rebirth, Group Coaching for Mamas – NEXT round July 2023. • Seeds For Your Garden - The Power of Reparenting
This week on the podcast I explore the transformative power of re-parenting for mothers (and all parents!). Some of the key points I discuss include:·      Defining Reparenting: What does reparenting look like? And who is the inner child? ·      How reparenting can transform our lived experience of mothering by healing attachment wounds and breaking the cycle of unhealthy relating. ·      Cultivating Self-Compassion. ·      Reconnecting with Desires and Needs as a vital step in your reparenting journey.  ·      How reparenting reduces how often we feel triggered and get stuck in anger. ·      My three key steps to begin your reparenting journey. I hope this episode has given you a better understanding of why reparenting is such a powerful tool for us as parents. You deserve a mothering experience where your needs are held up side by side with those of the rest of your family. Here is where you can find out more about me, how to work with me and some resources:Info & Waitlist for The Rebirth, Group Coaching for Mamas - This is my signature 13 week online group coaching container for mothers which covers family of origin, inner child work, nervous system basics, anger, boundaries and much more. • A Round Table Chat on Realigning Fatherhood: Bridging the gap between words and actions
This week, I’m bringing you a different kind of episode, where I’m joined by Mike Dyson and Erin Spahr in a thought-provoking discussion on an issue that struck a chord with my instagram audience: when fathers define themselves as "family men" but their actions tell a different story. Mike and Erin bring their unique perspectives to shed light on why this might be happening, the consequences of this misalignment, and how fathers can find support to change.Mike is the founder of Good Blokes Co, which empowers men and boys to break down restrictive gender norms and to step up as leaders of a healthier culture of masculinity. Mike facilitates Men's leadership retreats, father/son, mother/son and rites of passage camps all over Australia, and also works in schools, training teachers to make conversations about masculinity fun, engaging and meaningful for teenage boys, and giving parents the tools to get their boys talking.Erin is a licensed counsellor who approaches perinatal mental health from a social justice feminist lens. She is known as the Feminist Mom Therapist on Instagram and is also a cofounder of Therapists In Action, a collective of mental health professionals who advocate for social justice and liberation through education and community. In this episode we discuss:-  The qualities a man who is living in alignment with being a family man would possess, and the cost to women who aren’t receiving these from their partner. -  How men are socialised to act in ways that are at odds with the way they must act as fathers, and often lack a blueprint of how to show up in this role.-  The evolution of what “providing” for your family means and what this truly entails, and the importance of presence, emotional connection and safety.-  How to navigate conversations within relationships about this issue, and the importance of using “I” statements and noticing when your nervous system is flooded.-  The power of therapy, the reasons why men may resist it and the importance of men having support and spaces they can go to be vulnerable and share their experiences. This is such a rich conversation that I hope will leave you feeling less alone and empower men to redefine their roles as fathers and partners.REFERENCED RESOURCES-       ‘Fair Play’, by Eve Rodsky-       How Other Dads Dad’ – Podcast by Hamish Blake You can find out more about Mike here:https://www.goodblokes.co/https://www.instagram.com/goodblokesco/ You can find out more about Erin here:https://www.erinspahrtherapy.com/https://www.instagram.com/feminist.mom.therapist/https://www.therapistsinaction.com/https://www.instagram.com/therapists.in.action/Here is where you can find out more about me (Yara), how to work with me and some resources:@lifeafterbirthpsychologywww.lifeafterbirth.com.auFree Inner Critic WorkbookInfo & Waitlist for The Rebirth, Group Coaching for Mamas – NEXT round July 2023. • Seeds For Your Garden - Redefining Motherhood with the Power of "And"
In this episode of seeds for your garden, I discuss the power of the word "AND", and how it can help us access greater self-compassion and reduce guilt and shame in our mothering journey. "And" refers to the idea that two seemingly opposite things can both be true at the same time. For example, I can love my children deeply and still need time away from them to recharge and take care of myself. In this episode I explore how patriarchal motherhood ideals can lead to black and white, all-or-nothing thinking causing internal conflict, guilt, shame, and burnout, and how embracing to begin embracing the power of "and" to help us move away from these ideals and create a more empowering and liberating experience of motherhood.  Here is where you can find out more about me (Yara), how to work with me and some resources:@lifeafterbirthpsychology  www.lifeafterbirth.com.auFree Inner Critic WorkbookInfo & Waitlist for The Rebirth, Group Coaching for Mamas - This is my signature 13 week online group coaching container for mothers which covers family of origin, inner child work, nervous system basics, anger, boundaries and much more.
