Friday Favorites: Pride and Prejudice - Mr. Darcy's First Proposal
Elizabeth is still reeling from finding out that Mr. Darcy interfered in Bingley and Jane's relationship, when the man himself shows up Hunsford. He's calling on her with a request that takes her totally by surprise: Mr. Darcy wants to marry Elizabeth! Unfortunately, his proposal is more insulting than affectionate, as he focuses as much on the inferiority of Elizabeth's connections as his own desire to marry her. At least his mode of declaration makes it easier for Elizabeth to refuse, than had he behaved in a more gentleman-like manner. This week's Friday Favorites is a true classic. Let the comforting words of Mr. Darcy's ill-fated first proposal be a balm as they accompany you into a night of soft and restorative slumber.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Persuasion, Chapter 15
Anne has arrived in Bath and is settling into her family's new lodgings in Camden Place. She came in expecting the worst, but is pleasantly surprised to find her father and sister receiving her with kindness, even if it is only because they want to show her the furniture. More intriguing is the fact that Mr. Elliot has also taken up residence in Bath, and is eager to reconnect with his cousins. When he calls on them late in the evening, Anne is delighted to find that he is indeed the same gentleman that she briefly encountered in Lyme. All in all, it's a surprisingly successful start to her time in Bath. As Anne enjoys her pleasant evening, let it help bring peace to your own evening, as you settle in for another night of gentle sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Friday Favorites: Pride and Prejudice - Elizabeth Learns the Truth About Bingley and Jane
Elizabeth has been enjoying her walks around Rosings park, run-ins with Mr. Darcy notwithstanding. Today, she's run into a more pleasant companion, Colonel Fitzwilliam. After seemingly letting her down easy about his own marriage prospects, their conversation turns back to Mr. Darcy, and Elizabeth soon learns a shocking truth. It was none other than Mr. Darcy who stepped in to stop the potential marriage between Mr. Bingley and Jane. The news is so distressing that Elizabeth is immediately unwell. In this week's Friday Favorites, Elizabeth's contempt for Darcy reaches its peak, and as her feelings rage, let the familiar beats of her story help you end your week with a night of deep and restful sleep.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Persuasion, Chapter 14
After leaving Uppercross, Anne's time at Kellynch Cottage with Lady Russell is brief. They receive a visit from Mary and Charles, back from Lyme with updates on Louisa and Captain Benwick. The captain certainly sounds smitten with Anne, but he's too shy to travel to Kellynch to call on her, much to Anne and Lady Russell's disappointment. They spend a cozy and chaotic Christmas with the Musgroves, and then it's off to Bath, the prospect of which is as dreadful to Anne as it is welcome to Lady Russell. As Anne's time in one place concludes and a new one begins, let it help you conclude your day and move into a night of peaceful and restorative slumber.-----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast! Friday Favorites: Pride and Prejudice - Mr. Darcy Arrives at Rosings
Things in Kent just got a little more interesting: Mr. Darcy and his cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam have just arrived at Rosings. After a dinner together where Elizabeth gets to play and sing for the party, the gentlemen spend their time calling at Hunsford to visit the ladies - Mr. Darcy even calls on Elizabeth by herself. Yet, Elizabeth is puzzled by Mr. Darcy's frequent visits, since he rarely says much to anyone, in contrast to his warm and friendly cousin. In this week's Friday Favorites, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth come back into each other's orbit once again, and as they do, let their comforting presence help accompany you into an evening of relaxing sleep. -----Welcome to the Jane Austen Bedtime Stories podcast!
