120: Emotional Intelligence and the Art of Getting Kids to Open Up

    25/01/2026 | 22 mins.
Talking about feelings can be hard, for kids AND parents.

Some kids talk freely, others shut down, and many sit somewhere in between.

If youโ€™ve ever felt unsure how to help your child open up, or worried about whatโ€™s going on beneath the surface, this episode is for you.

Silence isnโ€™t defiance โ€” itโ€™s a signal. Kids can shut down when they donโ€™t feel emotionally safe, even when the environment is calm, loving, and well-intentioned.

Today I unpack how emotional intelligence, nervous system awareness, and self-regulation change the way kids experience communication and connection.

Youโ€™ll learn why kids decide (unconsciously) whether itโ€™s safe to share, how our tone, presence, and reactions matter more than the โ€œright words,โ€ and how letting go of control actually builds trust. I also share simple phrases, somatic calming strategies, and mindset shifts that create space for openness without pressure, fixing, or compliance.

If you want deeper connection, more trust, and conversations that happen naturally, without forcing, this episode will change the way you think about talking to your kids.

If this way of thinking resonates, my book on Amazon goes deeper into these ideas โ€” emotional intelligence as the foundation for calmer, more connected parenting. Think of it as a companion to this conversation. ๐Ÿ“š Find my book From Chaos To Connection by Stephanie Pinto on Amazon here!

119: When Your Child is The Bully: This Parent Was in Shock.

    18/01/2026 | 27 mins.
This oneโ€™s an eye-opener. An 11-year-old boy is suspended from school for bullying. His parent is devastated, confused, and in shock.

They turned to my parenting community online for help and ask a question so many parents would ask in that moment: โ€œBesides taking away electronics, what else can I do?โ€ What followed was a flood of responses.

Some were deeply supportive, insightful, and grounded in emotional intelligence. Others were confronting, punitive, and honestlyโ€ฆ alarming.

So today in this episode I unpack that post from my Facebook community, Letโ€™s Raise Emotionally Intelligent Kids, and the huge range of responses it received.

    I talk about:
Why punishment feels like the obvious answer, but often misses the mark
What bullying behaviour is really telling us about a child
    How shame-based consequences ALWAYS backfire
The big (and hugely important) difference between accountability and punishment
What emotionally intelligent parents focus on instead
How to support a child who has caused harm without excusing the behaviour

This is not about โ€œletting kids off the hook.โ€ And itโ€™s definitely not about ignoring the impact on the other child.

Itโ€™s about teaching responsibility, empathy, and change in a way that actually sticks.

If youโ€™ve ever thought, โ€œWhat if this was my child?โ€ or โ€œHow would I even handle that?โ€ This episode is for you. Enjoy.

118: Triggers, Tantrums, and Techniques That Work

    11/01/2026 | 29 mins.
You promise yourself you wonโ€™t yellโ€ฆ and then suddenly, you have. Maybe your childโ€™s tantrum isnโ€™t even that big, but something in YOU snaps.

If youโ€™ve ever wondered why you react the way you do, even when you know better, this episode is for you.

Today Iโ€™m not talking about how to โ€œfixโ€ your child, stop tantrums, or get quick compliance. Iโ€™m talking about the missing piece most parents were never taught: emotional intelligence, and how it completely changes the way you experience triggers, yelling, and discipline.

I unpack why reacting is often automatic, not a failureโ€ฆ Why punishment and control donโ€™t create calm (even when they seem to work short-term)โ€ฆ And why self-awareness, not willpower, is the skill that gives you choice in hard moments.

This conversation will help you see your triggers differently, understand whatโ€™s really happening in your nervous system, and shift the focus from controlling behaviour to building connection and emotional safety.

No scripts. No step-by-step formulas. Just powerful orienting principles to help you respond more intentionally, even on the haaard parenting days.

If youโ€™re tired of feeling stuck in the same cycle, and youโ€™re ready to parent with more calm, clarity, and confidenceโ€ฆ this is one you donโ€™t want to miss. Press play and letโ€™s start changing the way you show up at home.

117: Mini Masterclass on Emotional Intelligence 2026

    07/01/2026 | 30 mins.
    FREE MINI EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE MASTERCLASS!!

Even though emotional intelligence gets talked about a lot, I think it's actually understood very little.

So I decided to record a free, mini masterclass for you all and publish it on the podcast. I have stripped it back for you all and rebuilt it properly. Not as a buzzword. Not as โ€œbeing niceโ€!! And definitely not as something only parents or teachers need to worry about.

This is my mini masterclass on what emotional intelligence actually is, how it shapes EVERY interaction you have, and why in 2026 itโ€™s genuinely no longer optional regardless of who you are or where you live.

You'll see why emotions are data (not disruptions), how your nervous system quietly decides whether you stay calm or lose it, and why so many adults are blaming themselves for reactions that are actually biological. I unpack the skill-building side of EI, the stages people move through when learning it, and the hidden reason awareness alone can feel uncomfortable before it feels empowering.

And I couldn't NOT cover why โ€œbad behaviourโ€ is actually nervous system overload in disguise, how emotional intelligence predicts long-term success better than IQ, and why the adults around kids matter just as much as the kids themselves. Phew - a lot huh! You're going to love it.

    If youโ€™ve ever thought:
โ€œI know better, so why do I keep reacting like this?โ€
โ€œWhy does everything feel so much harder lately?โ€
โ€œHow do I stay regulated when the world (and kids) are not?โ€

Itโ€™s not a lecture. Itโ€™s not a checklist. Itโ€™s a reframe that changes how you see yourself, kids, and behaviour altogether.

A must-listen for parents, educators, and anyone who wants to stop surviving interactions and start handling them with clarity, steadiness, and real choice.

116: How to Raise Emotionally Intelligent Kids in 2026 (Without Doing More)

    04/01/2026 | 37 mins.
Parenting in 2026 isnโ€™t harder because youโ€™re doing it wrong. Trust me! Itโ€™s harder because the old tools donโ€™t work anymore.

Today it's the first episode of the year!! So Iโ€™m reintroducing the foundation of emotionally intelligent parenting and sharing why emotional intelligence is no longer optional, itโ€™s essential.

So I decided to talk about what emotional intelligence actually looks like in everyday family life, why behaviour is NEVER the full story, and how raising emotionally intelligent kids doesnโ€™t require more charts, consequences, or parenting hacks.

Instead, I put together a list of 26 simple, practical ways to bring emotional intelligence into your home in 2026, WITHOUT doing more (or aiming for perfection). It sounds like a lot but I promise they are quick simple bite sized things.

This episode is for parents who are tired of reacting, tired of yelling, and tired of feeling like they should know better. I have a lot of teachers and therapists who listen and love the podcast too, so anyone who lives or works with kids will enjoy this!

Here's to a calmer, more connected way to raise resilient, confident kids in 2026. This episode is your starting point :)
