On this Zero Limits Podcast Matty Morris chats with Jason Hiscox State Emergency Service Vertical Rescue Operator.
Jason grew up in Coffs Harbour — a self-described ratbag who needed a magistrate's wake-up call to turn his life around after multiple criminal convictions.
His son Nate was born in 2012 and changed he’s prospective everything. Jason joined the NSW SES, became a Vertical Rescue and Road Crash Rescue Instructor, rose to Deputy Rescue Officer, and spent over a decade responding to some of the most confronting jobs emergency services will ever see — including leading flood boat crews through the 2017 Lismore floods, earning the National Emergency Medal.
On February 28, 2015, he drove home from a training exercise to find three ambulances in his driveway. His son Nate, two weeks from his third birthday, had drowned in the family pool. Three months later, Jason was back in training completing Swift Water Rescue.

He kept showing up. In uniform, and as a father.

Dean Burgess is a former Australian Army Commando, veteran, and social commentator who brings a unique frontline perspective to today's most important conversations.
Dean began his military career with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) as a paratrooper, deploying to Baghdad, Iraq as part of a Security Detachment. Following his return to Australia, he successfully completed the demanding selection and reinforcement cycle for the 2nd Commando Regiment, earning his qualification as a Commando. During his service with the Regiment, Dean deployed to Afghanistan on two separate occasions as part of a mortar team with the Special Operations Task Group.
Pressure, and firsthand exposure to global conflict zones, Dean now focuses on creating content that explores current affairs, social issues, culture, and the rapidly changing world around us. Through honest commentary and thought-provoking discussion, he challenges convention

Born in Albury in 1979, Eddie Robertson forged a career through some of the most demanding environments in modern military history. From joining the Australian Army Reserve in 1997 and serving with the 2nd Commando Company and later 4th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (Commando), Eddie deployed to East Timor and multiple tours in Afghanistan with the Special Operations Task Group, including service with TAG-East and as part of a personal security detail for senior ISAF leadership. Between military postings, he operated on the private security circuit throughout Iraq during the height of the conflict, working for major international security firms in hostile environments.
