The goal is to recognise work that helps people develop the skills they need to navigate media - to make informed choices about the content they consume, create, and share. It's called the Generative AI and News 2025, and it surveyed thousands of people across six countries to understand how we're actually using AI and what we think about AI-generated news.The findings are not surprising in some ways, as respondents talk about the importance of trust, transparency, and what happens when technology moves faster than our readiness as news consumers.As a former journalist and as somebody who works with radio stations on digital news, I'm always keen to review the latest research, and Reuters Institute along with the University of Oxford do a great job in this field. Ep 207 California's New AI Chatbot Law
Send us a textCalifornia just made history. It has become the first US state to pass comprehensive safety laws around AI chatbots, particularly ones designed to be companions, advisers, or friends. The law is called Senate Bill 243, and Governor Gavin Newsom signed it in October 2025. It comes into effect January 1st, 2026. Deloitte Australia agreed to refund part of a $440,000 government contract after admitting they used AI to write a report that hallucinated and made things up.It’s worth taking stock of this story as it’s likely consultants are going to be under even more scrutiny. While AI is a valuable tool, verifying output is key, and also deciding what you use AI for. More importantly, having an AI Policy that provides guardrails for staff and the company’s reputation, as well as setting standards of use internally. Transparency is also important with your client.
