She Spent Hundreds of Thousands in 12 Months… Then Realised She Had No Idea Where Her Money Was Going

    17/05/2026 | 44 mins.
This week’s Money Diary is one of those “wait… this is actually so relatable” conversations. She’s a newly admitted lawyer who spent years living paycheck to paycheck while studying, prioritising travel over investing and genuinely having no idea what an ETF even was.
Fast forward a few years and life suddenly got very expensive, very quickly.
An apartment. A wedding. A honeymoon. Another holiday. A puppy. Moving costs. Furniture. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, she and her husband had the slightly nauseating realisation that they’d spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in a year… without really stopping to think about where any of it was actually going. And honestly? I think a lot of people will see themselves in this one. We talk about the pressure to buy property because everyone else is doing it, the reality of owning an apartment with brutal body corporate fees, lifestyle creep, ADHD hyper-fixation becoming an unexpected budgeting superpower, and what happened when she finally sat down and looked at her finances properly.
Now she’s investing 40% of her income, building a portfolio she actually understands, and rethinking what financial security is supposed to look like in the first place. This one feels a little bit like a group chat with your financially self-aware friends. Slightly chaotic. Slightly confronting. But in the best way.

Your Paycheck Isn’t Stretching Like It Used To. We Asked The PM Why

    16/05/2026 | 52 mins.
Okay… this one still feels a bit surreal to say out loud. Right after the federal budget dropped, I sat down with Australia’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and Finance Minister Katy Gallagher to ask the questions our She’s on the Money community actually wants answered. We covered a lot.
We spoke about housing affordability, negative gearing, capital gains tax changes, childcare costs, women’s health, paid parental leave, fuel prices, the gender pay gap and what the government is actually doing about the cost of living pressure Australians are feeling right now. We also had a really honest conversation about why the government changed its position on negative gearing, and whether politicians genuinely understand how financially stretched people are feeling.
But because this is still She’s on the Money… things also went slightly off the rails. We somehow ended up talking about ChatGPT, Bluey, subscription creep, the Met Gala, free McDonald’s burgers, sourdough, single people being forgotten by the system, and the Prime Minister’s thoughts on Sabrina Carpenter’s outfit choices. Which, to be fair, was not where I expected budget week to go.
If you’ve been trying to make sense of what just happened in Canberra, this is the budget breakdown you actually want to hear.

“Can I Actually Afford My Life Right Now?” We Put Australia’s Ministers In The Hot Seat

    15/05/2026 | 1h 14 mins.
Right after the federal budget dropped, I sat down with some of Australia’s most powerful ministers and political voices to ask the questions our community actually cares about. Not the polished political talking points… the real stuff. Housing affordability, childcare costs, rising bills, negative gearing, fuel prices, domestic violence support, women’s financial security and whether Australians are genuinely better off after this budget.
Across this bonus episode, I speak with Housing Minister Clare O'Neil, Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek, Infrastructure Minister Catherine King, Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen and Independent MP Monique Ryan about what this budget actually means for Australians trying to buy homes, leave violent relationships, pay power bills, raise kids and build financial security in an economy that feels increasingly hard to keep up with.
We also get into the politics behind negative gearing reform, whether the government has gone far enough on housing, why childcare still feels impossible for so many women, and what politicians really think when Australians say their paychecks simply aren’t stretching anymore.
Some of their answers genuinely surprised me.

Negative Gearing Is Dead, Unless You’re Already In. Jim Chalmers Explains Why Young Australians Miss Out

    15/05/2026 | 16 mins.
The federal budget has dropped… and Australians have opinions.
So Victoria sat down with Australia’s Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, immediately after the budget announcement to ask the questions everyone actually wants answered. From negative gearing and capital gains tax changes to the cost of living crisis, fuel prices, housing affordability, tax cuts and why blueberries suddenly cost what feels like a small mortgage repayment.
They also get into the political backlash surrounding the budget, why the government changed its position on housing tax reform, whether Canberra is disconnected from how tough things feel financially right now, and what Treasurer Chalmers says Australians fundamentally misunderstand about the federal budget.
There’s also unexpected chat about ChatGPT, air fryers, pocket money, coffee machines, influencers, and what it actually feels like to hand down a budget while the internet calls you “The Jim Reaper.”
If you’ve been trying to make sense of what just happened in Canberra, this is the budget breakdown you actually want to hear.
